KIDS TENNIS
Within this program, we are trying to teach our children how to compete while engaging in a playful activity. It is important for kids to understand that competing rather than winning is the most important thing. In addition, they need to understand the importance of perseverance and to accept both winning and losing. While playing tennis, children should painlessly acquire lessons of life such as: competitiveness, perseverance, that results are always accompanied with hard work, to explore and discover, to respect (coaches, opponents, referees…).
U10 (under ten years of age) program is customized for children ranging from five to 10 years of age. In accordance with the ITF principles, it is divided into 3 age categories:
RED category: children under eight (8),
ORANGE category: children under nine (9),
GREEN category: children under ten (10).
Both on practice sessions and within competitions, for players under 10 years of age, ITF encourages system that features slow: Red, Orange and Green balls that correspond with the same: Red, Orange and Green stages of tennis players’ development within the above-mentioned system of progressions.
Eleven (11) is the name of the program adapted to children that have no ambition to compete in tournaments organized by the Belgrade or Serbian Tennis Federation, meaning that they most likely have no intention to engage tennis in a professional manner.
Every stage of progression within the ITF’s Red/Orange/Green system is characterized by the specific court size, racket size, ball size as well as the specific ball pressure. We need to understand that children have different: court size perception, ball movement perception, ball bounce perception and that it is necessary to adapt coaching principles to specific tennis environment so that the children could understand and acquire predefined tennis skills.
